A Tale of two hikes – Part 4

Continued from previous post…

The trail emerges from the main forest for awhile, and enters a “meadow.”  This is an interesting place – as recently as 10 years ago this was a mostly barren meadow of ghostly white tree trunks, the skeletal remains of trees that were victimes of a forest fire.  Today, there are new trees everywhere, many of them towering more than 10′ and growing taller each year (of course). It makes for a cool vista, with the stream racing through.  A pass a young fit woman who is taking in the view and I comment about how cool the scenery is – she agrees, “even on a cloudy day.”

Up close: new trees emerging behind a ghostly burned tree.
