it is very dark at high noon in Seattle today, and there is a drenching rain outside. Winds are supposed to be strong in a few hours. But I am under a roof and we have a fire in the fireplace. All over Seattle, there are 1000s of souls with no roof and no fireplace. It’s not fair, but I feel very lucky/grateful to have a roof. Ever since reading EB Sledge’s autobiography (With The Old Breed) when the marines would be out in the rain for weeks at a time with no way to dry themselves, I am appreciating the ability to stay dry. Just like after suffering lung disease I appreciate a breath of fresh air.
