There was a morning in 2011 when I was bike riding through the Deschuttes National Forest when it suddenlly dawned on me how peaceful it all was. The birds were singing, the river was murmuring and there was not another sound in the world. I got off my bike and walked, let the rays of light warm my face, and for a few minutes was truly in heaven. It was one of the few times at the at time when I actually stopped to enjoy life — I was always rushing around at the time — and it was wondeful. (I told my wife when I got back home later that morning about the experience; sometimes we chuckle today beause a few months after that I was diagnosed with lung disease, so that moment of bliss I felt may have been oxygen deprivation 🙂 ).
This morning it is sunny, it is 70 degrees and the city is remarkably quiet. Fall is in the air, but it feels remarkably like spring. It is peaceful and beautiful, and as I head to work I am relishing it. It is wonderful. It reminds me of that morning in 2011.
